A revival of Stijn Celis’s Cinderella for Tanzfestival Saar 2026 at Saarländisches Staatstheater. Returning after its original 2011/12 Saarbrücken run, the staging reframes the classic fairy tale as a contemporary, character-driven narrative centered on the uncertainty of recognition and reunion after the ball. Celis introduces the recurring presence of Cinderella’s late mother as a benevolent, fairy-like guide. A striking visual motif is the mysterious young woman in a red dress whom the Prince meets at the ball, underscoring themes of identity and memory. The musical concept is anchored in Prokofiev’s Cinderella score and integrates additional pieces by Arthur Hammerstein and Raul Ferrão, shaping varied atmospheres for solos, ensembles, and ball scenes. Within the festival, the work is presented as a family-friendly ballet on the Main House stage.
