Mizgin Bilmen’s production condenses Georg Büchner’s unfinished drama fragment into a focused, approximately 75‑minute performance without intermission on the Kleines Haus stage at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe. At its center is the city soldier Woyzeck, who struggles to support his lover Marie and their child. To earn extra money, he shaves his captain and submits to a doctor’s degrading experiments. The relentless pressures of poverty, social humiliation, and psychological strain drive him into a spiral of delusion and violence. Set designer Sabine Mäder creates an oppressive, confined living space; overlapping scenes keep figures present in the background, intensifying the sense of constant pressure on Woyzeck. The staging features original incidental music by Charlie Casanova. Recommended for ages 14 and up.
