The Bacchae

Jan Frič directs Euripides' The Bacchae at the Estates Theatre in a new Czech translation by Matyáš Havrda and Petr Borkovec. The production is presented by the National Theatre Drama company as a music-theatre staging, with music by Jakub Kudláč performed live with the actors by Bert & Friends and an opera chorus. Its themes include humility, revenge, mass hysteria, travesty, and the conflict created when religious belief is rejected by individuals and by a community. The design team includes Dragan Stojčevski, Marek Cpin, Pavel Hořák, Přemysl Janda, Jiří Podubský, and Kateřina Blahutová. The production is intended for audiences aged 15 and over and uses a smoke machine and tobacco products.
