American Ballet Theatre revives Frederick Ashton’s Sylvia, set to Léo Delibes’s landmark score. The staging features original scenery and costumes by Christopher and Robin Ironside, additional designs by Peter Farmer, and lighting by Mark Jonathan. An Arcadian love story set in mythical Greece, the ballet follows Eros as he unites the chaste huntress Sylvia with the shepherd Aminta. Delibes’s music was so admired that Tchaikovsky famously said he would never have composed Swan Lake had he known it first.
