Conceived for the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées Sunday morning series, OBSESSION set Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 9 (“Kreutzer”) in dialogue with Leo Tolstoy’s novella The Kreutzer Sonata. Built around three expressive forces—violin, piano, and spoken word—the project explored how music can give rise to speech, which in turn forges a new musical language. Co-produced by Jeanine Roze Production and Les Grands Solistes, the performance was to feature Nemanja Radulović (violin), Laure Favre-Kahn (piano), and Michel Vuillermoz (narrator). The event, scheduled for March 29, 2020, was ultimately cancelled due to the venue’s COVID-19 closure.
