Modern Qu Opera Lu Town is a contemporary Qu opera production built from several works by Lu Xun. It combines characters and material from The Diary of a Madman, The New Year's Sacrifice, The True Story of Ah Q, Kong Yiji, and other works into a new theatrical space called Lu Town. Characters from Lu Xun's works are placed in dialogue across time and space through multiple situations of seeing and being seen. The production presents a numb, cruel, and boring social atmosphere and expresses the idea that everyone is a victim within a morbid environment. Its artistic purpose is to affirm the possibility of a better era while substantially adapting Lu Xun's original works.
