Director Gilles Bouillon places Molière’s Dom Juan in a contemporary acting space while preserving the historical distance and color of the original era. Inspired by Louis Jouvet’s vision of the modern Don Juan—especially the enigma of “the walking statue”—the production probes the character’s vitality and underlying anxiety. Bouillon emphasizes the hero’s cheerful appetite for life through energetic, jubilant theatricality. The staging relies on a concrete, sensual interplay of light and shadow to animate the myth on stage. Created as a new production for anthéa’s inaugural season, it bridges classical text and present-day performance practice.
