This bold new production of Oscar Wilde's enduring comedy is directed by the Lyric's Associate Director, Nicholai La Barrie. The 2026 revival marks exactly 100 years since the play last appeared at the Lyric Theatre, and it has been reimagined specifically for a contemporary London setting. The directorial vision focuses on the contradictions that define humanity, exploring themes of love and betrayal, politics and family, forgiveness and redemption, and morality and greed. La Barrie notes that the production aims to hold a mirror to modern society, exposing the masks worn in public life while using Wilde's razor-sharp wit to navigate uncomfortable truths about ambition, integrity, and the reconciliation of private mistakes with public personas.
