Johann Sebastian Bach's Fourth Suite for Cello explores the full potential of what appears possible on four cello strings tuned in fifths. One element that unites Dall'Abaco's Capricci and the suite's prelude is the allusion to a perpetuum mobile—a self-running wheel that is self-sufficient.
