This production served as the season finale for the New Orleans Opera Association's 2008-2009 season. It marked a significant return to the Mahalia Jackson Theatre for the Performing Arts in Armstrong Park. The staging was directed by Jay Jackson, a frequent collaborator with the company, and featured the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Robert Lyall. The production was noted for featuring the New Orleans Opera debuts of several principal singers, including tenor Leonardo Capalbo and baritone Stephen Powell. The staging utilized traditional elements consistent with the mid-19th-century setting of the libretto, performed in the original Italian with projected English translations for the audience.
