Azure After the Rain is an original dance drama by Shanghai Dance Theatre that portrays the life of Li Qingzhao, the famed female poet of the Song Dynasty. Set against the transition from the Northern to the Southern Song, it uses Chinese classical dance to trace her artistic brilliance and personal resilience. Presented at NCPA within the Chinese Dance Classics series, the work highlights Li’s mastery of poetry, calligraphy, painting, and epigraphy, and contrasts the serenity of her early life with the loss and patriotic resolve of her later years. The staging utilizes the NCPA Opera House’s advanced stage machinery and runs approximately 120 minutes including an intermission.
