About

Welcome is a new creation by the Sarthe-based company Zutano BaZar, freely inspired by Christopher Fishburn’s poem Welcome to all the pleasures, set to music by Henry Purcell in 1683. Conceived and choreographed by Florence Loison, the stage piece brings together a tenor, an electronic-music composer, and two contemporary dancers to revisit the original ode celebrating the joy and unifying power of the arts. The staging blends theatre, dance, Purcell’s baroque score, and original electronic compositions by Denis and Edouard Monjanel. Stage management, lighting, sound, and scenography are by Lénaïc Hureau, with recordings made at Old School Palace and L’Astragale studios. Supported by several artistic collaborators, the company offers a contemporary re-reading that lets the hope-filled impulse of the 1683 work resonate in the present.
