Maldonne is Leïla Ka’s first group piece for Compagnie Leïla Ka, performed by five women drawn from a pool of seven alternating interpreters. Costumes—long, brightly colored dresses in varied cuts and patterns—become active partners: they turn, drag, fly, and whip with the dancers’ movement. The choreography explores facets of the feminine through fragility, revolt, multiplicity of identities, and the urge to escape constraint. A collage-like sound world moves between Vivaldi and songs by Lara Fabian and Leonard Cohen; Julidans explicitly cites Dance Me to the End of Love. The stage environment is sharpened by Laurent Fallot’s lighting creation and touring support from lighting and sound technicians listed for the production.
