Refuge

About

Refuge is a project developed by Irish playwright Deirdre Kinahan during her residency at the Mainz Residenz in the spring of 2024. The work is a German–Irish co-production exploring immigration and the shared history between Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany and the Limerick region in Ireland. It was developed through research and workshops with members of the Staatstheater Mainz ensemble and the Irish theatre company Fishamble. The project embodies cross-cultural collaboration and international artistic exchange supported by the Mainz Residenz. Following an initial public sharing in 2024, the play was finalized in the 2024/25 season. A full premiere is scheduled for June 18, 2026, at Staatstheater Mainz, followed by a tour to Ireland.
