Director Simon Stone returns to the Adelaide Festival with a blistering reimagining of Anton Chekhov’s final play, The Cherry Orchard. Known for contemporary transformations of classics like Yerma and Medea, Stone relocates the Russian masterpiece to the high-stakes world of South Korean chaebols. This fast-paced drama ricochets between heartbreak and humour, asking whether a powerful family on the brink will adapt or collapse when the matriarch refuses to let go of the past. Produced by LG Arts Center and co-commissioned by Adelaide Festival, the production stars Cannes Best Actress winner Doyeon Jeon and Emmy-nominated Haesoo Park (Squid Game), with design by Saul Kim and costumes by Mel Page.
