Hadal Zone

About

Hadal Zone is an immersive musical journey into the deepest parts of the ocean, composed by Žibuoklė Martinaitytė. Written for bass clarinet, tuba, violoncello, contrabass, piano, and electronics, the work explores the lower registers of these instruments to create a listening environment defined by sound and vibration. The performance gradually descends into near-darkness, aided by a site-specific light installation by Akvilė Anglickaitė, inviting the audience into meditative states. Produced by hcmf// as part of The Current Climate initiative, with support from the Lithuanian Culture Institute and Music Information Centre Lithuania, and hcmf// Benefactors Allan and Mo Tennant. The piece was composed with the support of a 2020 Guggenheim Fellowship.
