Space Station Earth is a live concert by composer Ilan Eshkeri that explores how seeing Earth from space reshapes human perspective. The work engages with the Overview Effect—the profound shift in perception reported by astronauts—and translates this cognitive and emotional experience into a musical and visual event. Performed live by Eshkeri on synthesizers with orchestra and choir, the piece unfolds as a continuous arc moving from near-stillness to overwhelming scale. A triptych film written and directed by Eshkeri, created from astronaut-shot ISS footage and imagery filmed at European Space Agency sites, is projected across three large screens in dialogue with the music. The film extends the sense of scale and emotion, moving between vast planetary views and intimate human detail. The work frames Earth as a shared space station—there are no passengers, only participants—inviting audiences to reconsider humanity’s relationship with our planet.
