Shit också! is a fast-paced, 50-minute Swedish youth opera designed for audiences aged 10–14. Conceived through a year-long collaboration with middle school students from Rinkeby, the work channels their candid reflections on puberty, loneliness, alienation, and family life into a contemporary operatic narrative. Directed by Mira Bartov with set and costume design by Monika Frelin, the staging highlights boundaries between inner and outer spaces. The score by Fredrik Österling, performed by the Stockholms Läns Blåsarsymfoniker, shifts quickly between distinctive, intricate textures and lyrical, Puccini-like warmth. The production blends raw social realism with touches of magical intervention to create a dynamic, emotionally charged experience. The result is an immediate, present-tense piece of music theatre shaped by and for young people.
