»Vertigo« is a concert program centered on Michael Praetorius and his position at the transition between the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Pygmalion combines selections from Praetorius with sacred and choral music by Claudio Monteverdi, Heinrich Schütz, Giovanni Gabrieli and other composers of the period. The concept imagines a young German musician who cannot leave his city but wishes to hear the wider European musical world. The concert contrasts large-scale polychoral architecture and Venetian sonority with intimate sacred concertos, laments and prayers. It is performed by the early-music choir and orchestra Pygmalion under founder and conductor Raphaël Pichon, with vocal soloists Yerin Mira, Perrine Devillers, William Shelton, Zachary Wilder and Christian Immler.
