The wind and the waves it brings break the surface of the mirror-like sea in Mendelssohn's work, and the swift journey can begin. Mendelssohn was inspired by Goethe's poem of the same name about a calm sea and a prosperous voyage. Khachaturian's Violin Concerto has an exhilarating rhythm and vitality, leading the listener into the sounds of Armenian folk music. Soloist is Norwegian Eldbjørg Hemsing, one of the most exciting young violinists of the moment, who is taking audiences by storm around the world. Schumann's Second Symphony concludes the symphony series of the autumn season with a sumptuous finale.
