Heiner Goebbels creates a highly refined theatrical art that matches his exquisite instrumental technique, developing a deeply personal language where seemingly incompatible musical styles converge. In Max Black, the audience discovers an actor attempting to measure the immeasurable, inviting them to help solve his enigma. Language is transformed into music in a poetic manner, giving way to abstraction. Every sound produced on stage can be translated into a melody, fitting together perfectly. Unlike previous works where musicians acted as performers, in Max Black, everything the sole performer does is transformed into light (fire), images (action), and music (sound). The production utilizes pyrotechnics as a core element of its lighting design, alongside live sound sampling and the theatrical value of everyday objects. The staging operates almost like an experimental laboratory, where the scenography and texts contribute to a hybrid experience between a concert and a theatrical experiment.
