All Souls is a 65-minute contemporary opera that fuses live performance with rich electronic media to create an immersive sonic environment in place of traditional sets. Scored for solo soprano, string quintet, piano, synthesizer, harp, two percussionists, and prerecorded audio, the piece balances acoustic forces against spoken-word tracks and field recordings controlled live by composer John Supko. For this North Carolina Opera presentation, the museum setting at CAM Raleigh surrounded the audience with Maya Lin’s Blue Lake Pass, reinforcing the work’s themes of travel and shifting perspectives. The sound world evokes locations from Berlin to Spain and Morocco, functioning like a film soundtrack for an invisible screen. Timothy Myers led the ensemble with precise coordination between live and electronic elements. The work carries a content advisory due to explicit and intense narrative material.
