Opera Ballet Vlaanderen presents a new hybrid music-theatre production based on Tom Lanoye’s bestselling historical novel, De Draaischijf. Conceived as a theatre monologue performed by acclaimed actor Peter Van den Begin, the piece is interwoven with a newly commissioned symphonic score by composer Steven Prengels, played live by the Symfonisch Orkest Opera Ballet Vlaanderen. Directed by Frank Van Laecke, the production revives a historical Flemish Opera practice in which Dutch texts were rhythmically spoken over orchestral accompaniment, connecting the work to the roots of the Nederlandsch Lyrisch Tooneel. This world premiere blends spoken drama and symphonic writing to explore art, memory, and responsibility within a turbulent cultural landscape.
