Laid in Earth is a screen choreography by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, directed by Thomas James, that fuses fluid quartet movement with an eerie, gothic visual world. Using split-screen and mirror imagery, the film shows dancers seemingly moving both above and beneath the earth, surrounded by dust, dead trees, and organic debris. Purcell’s Dido’s Lament transitions into new electronic music by Olga Wojciechowska, driving a dreamlike, unsettling arc of decay, renewal, and fragile human connection.
