Founded in 1984 by prominent dancer and choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, Ballet Preljocaj is recognized as one of the leading contemporary dance companies in France and internationally. Gravity, which premiered in 2018 at the Biennale de la danse de Lyon, is a piece for 12 dancers that deeply explores the physical principles of gravity. The production investigates invisible forces, the attraction between bodies, spatial dynamics, and acceleration. The choreography questions the weight and language of dance, asking performers to oscillate between resistance and surrender. The staging plays with the Earth’s strange attraction, blending science and poetry into a sensory experience. The sound world is highly eclectic, spanning Bach and Ravel to Daft Punk and Philip Glass. The visual aesthetic is supported by costumes by Igor Chapurin and lighting by Éric Soyer.
