Kolchida

About

Kolchida is a contemporary exploration of spirituality separated from religion, blending tradition and classical foundations with the music of noises, clicks, and pure harmonies. The conceptual point of departure for the titular work lies in Georgian polyphonic songs and the rich, varied folk music of the Caucasus. The project began in 2019, when Kwartludium visited Georgia at the invitation of the Polish Institute in Tbilisi, working with ethnographic materials, studying the history of ancient Colchis, and making field recordings. These recordings became foundational material for the electroacoustic compositions in the program. To realize this vision, Kwartludium collaborated with acclaimed Polish electronic music artist Michał Jacaszek. Together they created a collective exploration of Georgian polyphony, highlighting its expressiveness and the deep, solemn sonority characteristic of the region’s unique vocal traditions.
