Ballade

Under the title Ballade, the MM Contemporary Dance Company, led by Michele Merola, presents a new evening made up of two original choreographies by Italian creators Mauro Bigonzetti and Enrico Morelli. Performed by MMCDC’s dancers, the pieces take the audience on a journey across different generations. Bigonzetti’s Ballade is a full-bodied portrait of the 1980s, a decade that has outgrown its temporal boundaries to become a symbol of an era. The choreography revives the sensations of that time—between euphoria and unease—through an eclectic soundtrack ranging from rock to minimalism. Morelli’s Elegia, by contrast, speaks to our present moment. It is a time that brings vertigo and disorientation as never before, yet also a renewed hope for new beginnings. Dance becomes a tool to explore human fragility and the search for connection in a fragmented world.
