In the world premiere by the young Austrian composer Thomas Dézsy, the enigmatic persona of the poet and composer E. T. A. Hoffmann, in his romantically torn state, becomes a model for an attitude toward life and the center of a constant search for the self. Based on a script by the Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky, Dézsy’s media theater transforms the soundtrack into an opera score and the film into reality.
