Rarely has the world we live in felt as unsettled as it does today. Surrounded by crises and wars, a palpable shift to the right is fueling growing fears for our democracy. When you ask young people how they look to the future, the most common answer is: with concern. Taking Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony “From the New World” as a starting point, the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra asks: If we could dream, what would our world of tomorrow look like? How might our coexistence be shaped—between people, and also between humans and the environment? As part of a year-long participatory project, the orchestra’s musicians and students from two Hamburg schools search artistically for answers. They present their results in this concert.
