Dutch National Opera, Toneelschuur Producties, and RIGHTABOUTNOW INC. join forces for a new music-theatre work inspired by the unorthodox American theatre-maker Michael Matthews. Directed by Nita Kersten with dramaturgy by Maarten van Hinte and Wout van Tongeren, the production is part of the Opera Forward Festival’s platform for experimentation and new voices. British composer and saxophonist Cassie Kinoshi provides an emotionally direct score that blends opera, jazz, soul, spoken word, and the signature synthesizer sounds of the 1980s and 1990s. An ensemble of singers, actors, and musicians explores the production’s central figures through a cross-genre theatrical language that bridges pop, underground, and classical cultures, engaging themes of identity, community, and social justice.
