Pneuma

Created for the Ballet National de Bordeaux in March 2014, Pneuma is the company’s second collaboration with Carolyn Carlson. Inspired by the poetry of Gaston Bachelard—especially his meditations on the elements and the imagination of air—the work is life‑affirming and filled with fantastical imagery. The score by Gavin Bryars and Philip Jeck shapes a distinctive sound world, while Rémi Nicolas’s lighting and set design frame Carlson’s choreographic vision. Brought to the Mariinsky Theatre as a guest engagement by the Bordeaux National Opera Ballet under the artistic direction of Charles Jude.
