The Misanthrope

The California State University San Marcos Visual and Performing Arts Department presented a seven-night production of The Misanthrope, the 17th-century comedy by French playwright Molière, in Richard Wilbur’s English translation. Directed by Professor Marcos Martinez, the staging featured a lively cast of ten students in the intimate CSUSM Performance Hall (Arts 111). The production spotlighted the absurdities of social and literary pretension and drew parallels between the hypocrisies of French noble society and the innate flaws present in all humans.
