Directed by Ashley R. Kobza, this staging of Almost, Maine embraces a Magic Realism approach focused on the human desire to love and be loved. The production explores how characters physically carry their emotions—like literal baggage or a broken heart—highlighting love’s mysterious logic. Kobza avoided traditional blackouts between the play’s many vignettes and instead built ensemble movement transitions rooted in a collective “group mind.” During rehearsals, the company created physical sequences using spatial relationships and gestures of embrace to fluidly bridge scenes.
