About
Four young people find and lose each other in a forest, intoxicated by the promises of a summer night. Together with her lover Lysander, Hermia flees from her own engagement to the protection of the forest. But the betrayed fiancé Demetrius follows her and in turn is adored by Hermia's friend Helena. Meanwhile, at a higher level, Elf King Oberon and his wife Titania get into a fight. Without further ado, Oberon has his factotum Puck generously spray love potions in the forest. And now all barriers and covers fall – for a midsummer night. In 1959 Benjamin Britten composed his "A Midsummer Night's Dream" based on the original text by Shakespeare and established the material for the opera stage of the 20th century in a gripping and sensual way.
