Modern sacred music dominates this program of delicate spiritual inspiration, in which the presence of Arthur Oldham reminds us of the extraordinary instrument that is the Chœur de l'Orchestre de Paris. Very close to Britten, of whom he was a student, Arthur Oldham is none other than the one who founded the Chœur de l'Orchestre de Paris in 1979, at the request of Daniel Barenboim. His work In Praise of the Virgin renews the tradition of the Salve Regina with subtlety and grace. Like Fauré, Debussy, or Schönberg, Jean Sibelius fell under the spell of Maeterlinck's play, Pelléas et Mélisande.
