Soul Chain by tanzmainz (Staatstheater Mainz) fuses the precision of ballet with the pulse of electronic music to conjure a hypnotic, collective body. Sharon Eyal’s choreography forges the ensemble into an intense swarm, oscillating between feral drive and sculpted purity, while emotions of love, longing, and devotion ripple through the formation. Ori Lichtik’s propulsive score powers the relentless flow of movement, as patterns evolve, fracture, and reform with trance-like momentum. The minimalist design heightens the visceral focus on breath, weight, and rhythm, revealing the fine line between individual and mass. Awarded the German Theatre Prize DER FAUST (2018) and invited to Tanzplattform Deutschland (2020), Soul Chain has become a signature work of the company.
