Embark on a musical and poetic journey in a brand-new opera for children and their adults. Thumbelina tells the story of a young girl searching for herself in a world where she resembles no one else, confronted along the way by both the care and the ferocity of nature. This musical reimagining, based on Hans Christian Andersen’s famous 1835 fairytale, invites you to explore nature together with little Thumbelina and to get to know the smallest insects and animals and their habitats even better. The opera is written by composer Josefine Weber Hansen and librettist-director Rikke Frigast Jakobsen. On stage, three opera singers and four musicians bring the tale’s characters and the sounds of nature to life in a magical space created by scenographer Katrine Gjerding and lighting designer Thora Eriksen. The production is created by the artist collective Venteværelset and presented in collaboration with Den Fynske Opera and H.C. Andersen Festivals. Aimed at children aged 7+ and their adults.
