Goyo Montero’s Submerge explores the strata of depth and time a diver passes through, with each level prompting inward reflection. The choreography drives dancers into a highly acrobatic, confrontational physicality, often grounded on the floor, rolling and twisting. Owen Belton’s forceful, mixed-genre score animates the action, while Martin Gebhardt’s superb lighting lends an intergalactic sheen and deepens disorientation. Heavy downbeats suggest conflict and confusion, and shadow-play adds unease. Costuming moves from dark, wetsuit-like all-in-ones to beige skin-wear, suggesting transformation and vulnerability.
