Coronado Playhouse’s production of Curtains is directed by Elissa Russell, who calls it a love letter to the magic of putting on a musical—even when things go hilariously wrong. The show features a bi-level wooden set by Gordo Ghostway, colorful period costumes by Lisa Samson, and lighting by Mashun Tucker. Embracing the classic 1959 theatrical setting, the staging uses a large ensemble of 16 who double as dancers. Choreographer Chelsea Zeffiro drives sprightly numbers, with the second act building into an extended production sequence. The production aims to capture Broadway’s golden-age blend of glitzy showstoppers and heartfelt ballads.
