Borrowed Light

Borrowed Light is a dance-theatre work by choreographer Tero Saarinen in collaboration with The Boston Camerata. Eight dancers and eight singers perform archival Shaker hymns arranged by Joel Cohen, with Erika Turunen’s stark costumes and Mikki Kunttu’s sculptural light and space shaping the stage image. Foot-sound and bodily percussion are integral, while the piece unfolds as a ritual of communal devotion rather than a narrative. Musical direction is by Anne Azéma, with sound creation by Heikki Iso-Ahola and rehearsal direction by Henrikki Heikkilä and Annika Hyvärinen.
