Christian Marclay's Investigations is a new score created from 100 found photographs, each depicting piano players. The performance involves 20 pianists interpreting these images. The pianists decipher the musical action implied at the moment each photograph was taken and then mark the result of their investigation on staves below the image. During the concert, the players perform independently from each other, contributing to a large aleatory performance. The work fuses fine art and audio cultures, transforming sound and music into a visible, physical form.
