The program is conceived as a journey through contrasting orchestral aesthetics, opening with Carl Maria von Weber’s Invitation to the Dance in Hector Berlioz’s orchestration. This piece forms a stylistic bridge between late Classicism and early Romanticism and is known for its programmatic narration of a courteous dance between partners. The concert’s center is Robert Schumann’s Cello Concerto (1850), described as an “anti-virtuosic” work that favors an enigmatic, intimate dialogue between soloist and orchestra over outward display. After the interval comes Richard Strauss’s monumental symphonic poem Also sprach Zarathustra, which explores complex philosophical themes through a large-scale symphonic design. The performance marks a milestone for conductor Saša Getsl, who leads this work for the first time in this production.
