Union|haze

union|haze is a composition by Chris Swithinbank that explores the nature of performance by examining the situated and material assemblages that constitute it. The piece foregrounds the agency of all participants, including non-human elements, by situating them within layers of a particulate fog. It integrates ideas and materials from Swithinbank’s earlier works, union–seam and local bond, weaving them into a complex sonic and conceptual fabric. Originally commissioned as part of ensemble recherche’s residency at Harvard University, the work probes how context, material, and relation shape what performance can be.
