Mikrokonzert: I Swear I Saw The Sun Falling

The piece investigates the edges of things: transitions between audibility and background noise and the intersections between found and ambient sounds (radios, pop music, conversations, remembered places) and an abstract musical discourse. Its texture juxtaposes streams of everyday noise with moments that glide into focus, yielding a constellational structure assembled from personal and collective sonic memories. The work interrogates memory and shared experience rather than evoking nostalgia. Scored as a compact concerto-like work for solo cello with small ensemble and electronics, it uses both acoustic instrumental writing and processed/found material. The cello part was written for and premiered by Alice Purton; the ensemble Vaganza provided the supporting chamber forces. The composer notes that the work has been withdrawn and is no longer available for performance.
