"Strange Matter" presented a curated evening of contemporary orchestral music, bringing together European avant-garde currents with emerging Canadian voices. Esprit Orchestra featured works from 1984 to 2014, anchored by the world premiere of Samy Moussa’s Intermezzo for Orchestra and contrasted with the textured sound-worlds of Ruzicka, Chin, Di Castri, and Gabriel Prokofiev. Moussa appeared as guest conductor alongside Music Director Alex Pauk, highlighting the ensemble’s commitment to new music. The program explored a wide palette of sonorities—from long-lined, volatile orchestral gestures to rhythmically charged writing and intimate chamber textures—showcasing a vibrant snapshot of contemporary creation.
