Physics for the Girl in the Street is a music theatre work by Irish composer, vocalist, and improviser Jennifer Walshe. Commissioned specifically for the MaerzMusik 2007 festival, the piece explores the intersection of memory, sound, and performance art. Walshe describes the work as a "highly realistic magic play" that creates an iridescent sonic world. The production concept integrates diverse audio materials, including tape recordings of the composer's mother, a friend, and radio programs Walshe herself created at the age of nine. These archival and personal sounds are combined with "old-fashioned magical tricks" and live performance by the vocalist and percussion quartet. The result is a multi-layered performance that blurs the lines between documentary sound, childhood memory, and theatrical illusion.
