Out in Space is a dance production that investigates the blurring boundaries between external reality and the internal world of human experience. Designed for audiences aged 14 and up, the piece invites viewers to examine their own emotions through the non-verbal, universal languages of dance and music. Staged in Deutsche Oper am Rhein’s mobile venue, the UFO, the production creates an intimate setting for an exploration of self. Choreographer Sara Angius guides the protagonist on a journey into his inner self, accompanied by live music from composer Benedikt ter Braak. The work focuses on confronting unfamiliar or suppressed emotions—feelings that cling to the protagonist and refuse to let go because they are an intrinsic part of him. The staging visualizes the tension between identifying with these emotions and pushing them away, ultimately seeking a path out of the protagonist’s head and back into shared reality.
