Being Somewhere is a multichannel electroacoustic performance that serves as the artistic result of Robert Seaback’s doctoral research at the Norwegian Academy of Music. The project investigates the concept of presence, questioning whether the feeling of “being somewhere” requires physical location in a specific space. Seaback utilizes a combination of field recordings, embodied acoustic experiences, and digital manipulation to transport listeners into fictional realms where disparate spaces merge. The production is designed to create a sense of instability by contrasting live musicians in the concert hall with electronic sounds. This juxtaposition forces the audience to oscillate between the virtual and the physical world. The intended result is a hyperreal space where the listener’s body feels transported elsewhere while physically remaining in the venue.
