Understanding common requirements is part of the nature of artistic work, serving as the foundation from which progress can be made and new work created. The three choreographers whose works form COMMON GROUND share a deep connection with the Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) in The Hague, where all three pieces originally had their world premieres. Along with a shared artistic conviction that embraces humor, their choreographies are interwoven with subtle thematic connections. The first two pieces, Cacti and IMPASSE, are inspired by music for string quartet, while the first and third pieces (Cacti and Bella Figura) are each based in their own unique way on the concept of seduction. The production highlights the distinct yet complementary voices of Alexander Ekman, Johan Inger, and Jiří Kylián, offering a cohesive evening of contemporary ballet that explores societal structures, human vulnerability, and the nature of performance itself.
