This production is a theatrical exhibition of the 1984 film Purple Rain, presented as a coordinated six-day AMC engagement following Prince's death. The film opened at 87 AMC locations across the United States on Saturday, 23 April 2016, and continued through Thursday, 28 April 2016. The San Diego engagement took place at AMC Mission Valley 20, with reported daily showtimes at 16:30 and 19:30. The film is an autobiographical or semi-autobiographical account of Prince's rise as a musician. It was directed by Albert Magnoli, written by Albert Magnoli and William Blinn, and produced by Robert Cavallo, Joseph Ruffalo, and Steven Fargnoli.
